Also, if you’re a person who wants to buy a new foldable phone without any prior experience, this review will help you decide whether to buy this phone or not.

So, without saying anything random, let’s delve into the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 review and see what features we get to explore.

Design & Build Quality

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Design & Build Quality

If we look at the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, we can see that the design has not changed. Instead, it remains the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. So, the design hasn’t changed at all. However, in my opinion, I expected something new in the design. Anyway, even though it carries the same design, that doesn’t mean the design is bad. As a flip phone, it still has the most stylish and fashionable design. When I look at the phone from a distance, the design catches my eye. I don’t know what other people think, but that’s how I felt.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has IP48 water and dust resistance rating

This time, the weight of the phone hasn’t changed at all. The previous Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 weighed 187g, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has the same 187g weight (as already mentioned). However, we see something new in the dust and water resistance rating. Previously, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 had an IPX8 water resistance rating, but the Galaxy Z Flip 6 now has an IP48 water and dust resistance rating, meaning we are getting protection from both dust and water.

Display

Since this is a flip phone, we are used to seeing two displays—one cover display and one main display. First, let’s talk about the cover display.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Cover Display has Super AMOLED display, a 60Hz refresh rate, a 3.4-inch screen, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection

One thing that disappointed me is that they carried over the same size and protection for the cover display. The previous Galaxy Z Flip 5 featured a Super AMOLED display, a 60Hz refresh rate, a 3.4-inch screen, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, and we are seeing the same things in the Galaxy Z Flip 6. There has been no change in display size or protection.

However, I was able to use more features with the display. I could use animated wallpapers of my choice and also widgets. I could set widgets as I wanted and customize them to my liking. Additionally, I could save a limited number of apps on the cover display and use them normally. I could watch YouTube videos, Netflix, or anything else I liked on the cover display.

The same goes for the main display—they didn’t upgrade much. The only noticeable improvement is in the brightness level. The main display is a Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and 2600 nits (peak) brightness. The content consumption experience I had with this phone was good enough. It can easily satisfy any type of user and fulfill their content consumption needs.

Lastly, the crease issue—this time, they have done better. While watching videos or scrolling through Facebook, you will hardly notice the crease. Compared to the last model, they have successfully reduced the crease, making it much better than before. I loved it because, during normal use, I didn’t feel like there was a crease in the middle of the phone.

Camera

The most interesting thing I loved about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is its camera. They upgraded the primary camera from 12MP to 50MP, which is a great improvement. This time, we get a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP front/selfie camera.

Since they upgraded the camera, it’s totally expected that the image quality would be much better than before. This time, the color, contrast, sharpness, and subject details in photos are significantly improved. And why wouldn’t they be? We now have a 50MP primary camera instead of the previous 12MP. The ultra-wide photos are also good enough to satisfy most users. Another interesting feature remains—you can take selfies with the main camera, which provides much more detailed and high-quality images. The ultra-wide lens allows for wider selfies, capturing more of the background. The front camera selfies are decent, but I wouldn’t call them the best.

Ultra Wide Photo

For video recording, it supports 4K at 30fps and 60fps. You can record videos by folding the phone halfway and placing it in a suitable position for hands-free recording. One thing I found interesting is that I could adjust the flip angle to any shape I wanted, which made it easier to take different types of posed pictures and videos the way I liked.

Hardware & Performance

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 12GB LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

The most interesting thing about this phone that sets it apart from the previous series is its hardware. This time, we have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is the most powerful Android chipset for all kinds of usage, from heavy tasks to gaming and more. It also has 12GB LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. This kind of hardware and features are expected in flagship category phones, but we are lucky to see such features in a flip phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Vapor Chamber for phone cooling

Another interesting thing they introduced this time is the Vapor Chamber, which is a new addition to flip phones. In previous generations, no company used any kind of Vapor Chamber in their flip phones, but Samsung made it possible.

While using the phone, the experience I got was top-notch. Firstly, I want to talk about its gaming performance. Also, I would like to mention that most flip phone users don’t buy them for gaming. They use flip phones to stand out and present themselves as more stylish and fashionable.

Anyway, talking about its gaming performance, I experienced it at a top-notch level—thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powerful chipset. While playing games, the experience I had was very satisfying. I would say I gained flagship-level gaming performance while using this phone. Although most users don’t buy flip phones for gaming, if you want, you can still use this phone as a gaming phone because its gaming performance matches flagship-level phones.

For daily activities and heavy usage, the phone successfully delivers top-notch performance. During my daily use, I didn’t face any kind of lagging or trouble. It handled both heavy tasks and everyday activities smoothly.

One other thing is that if the phone gets hot, you don’t have to worry at all. The Vapor Chamber provided this time is very useful, especially if you play games on this phone. In my opinion, having the Vapor Chamber was very satisfying because it always kept my phone at normal temperatures whenever it got hot during usage.

Software & UI

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is running on the latest Android version—Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is running on the latest Android version—Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1. Overall, the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s software and UI are impressive, in my opinion. You can also update it to One UI 7, and it’s fully supported. With the latest Android version and One UI, the phone runs smoothly and easily handles any kind of heavy usage pressure.

Galaxy AI

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 AI Performance Check

This time, Samsung added more AI features to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 series, and the AI features are very impressive. One of them is the language translator. If you’re visiting a different country and don’t know the local language, you don’t have to worry at all. The AI feature will translate your language into their local language, and they can also read what you’re saying on your phone’s cover screen—which is interesting. I didn’t use the AI features very much, but I liked them. This feature will be very helpful for travelers who don’t know the local language.

Battery Life & Charging

Samsung upgraded a lot in the battery section. In the previous Galaxy Z Flip 5, the battery was 3700mAh, but it has been upgraded to a 4000mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It’s very interesting to have such a large battery in a flip phone.

Regarding battery backup, in my day-to-day use, the battery gave me 9-10 hours of screen-on time, which means I was getting a full day’s battery backup.

The charging system they are providing this time is 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Verdict

Now finally, let’s talk about whether you should buy this phone or not—and if you’re already using this phone, should you upgrade or not?

In my opinion, if you’re not using a flip phone and thinking of buying one, then this phone is definitely worth buying. You will get all kinds of performance and a good camera at a flagship level in this phone.

And for those who are using the Galaxy Z Flip 5—should they upgrade? From my experience, if you’re using the Galaxy Z Flip 5, I would suggest you not upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Samsung didn’t upgrade a lot of things in the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Most features are similar between the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, if you’re someone who wants a better camera, better battery, and AI features, then you should upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

And here’s where my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 review ends. Let me know whether you’re going to use a flip phone for the first time or upgrade your phone. I hope my article will help you make your decision.

Have a good day!
