Why is the silent revolution happening with wired headphones? Does it make the smartphone more stylish, or are some secrets hidden within the 3.5mm headphone jack that we don’t know at all?
Don’t worry at all, in today’s article I’m going to tell you about the silent revolution of disappearing smartphone jacks. Why is the headphone jack removed from the phone? By removing it, what are the advantages and disadvantages we are receiving, and why do companies do such things with these phones? For the customer benefit or company benefit?
So, let’s discover together what those things are that smartphone companies are removing the headphone jack from the phone, and nowadays it is hardly seen in the latest flagship phones.
The 3.5mm Connector Rise and Fall
For decades, the 3.5mm jack was audio’s king, connecting us to music on radios, MP3 players, and early smartphones. Ubiquitous and reliable, it was the standard. Then, in 2016, Apple’s iPhone 7 changed everything. They removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7. They did that thinking about the iPhone 10 series. They did it for many reasons. From there, all the phone companies started to remove the headphone jack from the phone. Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and even other phone brands also did the same things as Apple did with their iPhone 7. From there, the 3.5mm headphone jack’s downfall began. And nowadays, it is difficult to see any headphone jack in flagship phones.
The Reasons Behind the Changes
If I told you that there are numerous reasons to remove the headphone jack, you will be shocked or you will wonder how it can hold so many reasons. It’s just a simple thing. Isn’t it? But it’s true, there are several reasons concealed behind the headphone jack being removed. Let’s learn it all!
As mentioned before, the headphone jack removal started when Apple removed the headphone jack, or 3.5mm connector, from the iPhone 7. From there, all the other phone companies started to remove the 3.5mm connector. The connector has been removed for many reasons. Let me tell you all! After removing the 3.5mm connector, we are getting a better device than before. Some are getting water-resistant phones. Because when the headphone jack is in a phone, it’s a high chance to get water into your phone via the path of the headphone jack or the 3.5mm connector. So, removing the 3.5mm connector, there is no chance to get water into your phone, which makes the phone water-resistant.
Also, another factor is we are getting a full-screen display. With the 3.5mm connector, the display cannot be used in full screen. So, having no headphone jack, the phone company can provide us a full display screen, and it’s happening; we are getting full-screen display and also no headphone jack.
By removing the 3.5mm connector, the space phone companies gained, they used the space in different sectors. Many phone companies used the space to put a larger battery, and some of the companies used the space to provide a big camera so that the user can take high-quality pictures. And some other components that needed to be improved used the space which they obtained after removing the headphone jack.
Also, the companies used a strategy that compelled the user to use wireless earbuds or wireless headphones because they had no other way without using them. If I tell you, it’s a technology improvement. So, the user doesn’t have to carry wires with themselves.
Moreover, it’s all about the trend. All the companies are following the trend and the strategy to promote wireless headphones or wireless earbuds. So, that the wireless headphone industry takes its place in the market.
Advantages We Get
Not having the 3.5mm connector gives us a lot of advantages. When a phone does not have the headphone jack, the phone gets more space; for that reason, the space is filled with a larger battery or a larger camera or many other components. To hear music, we don’t have to carry wired headphones because it has been replaced by wireless headphones, which makes the user hassle-free. Another thing is that we are getting dust and water resistance to our phones, which is excellent. For that, we can use our phone in any kind of place, no matter if there is dust or water.
Disadvantages We Get
Not having the headphone jack, we also face some disadvantages too. When we had the headphone jack in our phone, we could easily use the headphone jack to hear music. And the price, the price of the headphone jack was affordable. But not having the headphone jack, we don’t have any kind of alternative without using the wireless headphones or wireless earbuds. For that reason, we have to buy them and use them. The price is also higher than the headphone jack.
Accept and Use
There was no other alternative without using the wireless system. The phone companies didn’t leave any kind of second option for us to use. In my view, it’s a good action they took. For that, we don’t have to carry wires with us, and we are getting a much better phone with new features. At the end, I would say we should follow the trend and keep with the wireless system. And as soon as we get used to it, we will not face any kind of issue not having the headphone jack.
